Welcome to the cutting through biofilms section of the GoodbyeLyme Library.

Lyme bacteria are able to work cooperatively to produce a shield to protect themselves. This shield is a sticky covering that is called a biofilm. Several other species of harmful bacteria also produce biofilms. Most medications and herbs have a difficult time penetrating this shield. The Lyme bacteria and their co-infections are believed to be able to hide under this gooey biofilm until it is safe to re-emerge and re-infect you all over again.

However, there are some medicines that can cut though the biofilm and allow other anti-Lyme medicines to kill off hidden bacteria. Here are several medicines that are used to break open the Lyme biofilm.
